Glenbrook Bonsai News        Spring '08

Dear Bonsai Enthusiast,

"The Great Dig" Restocked Field Bed

Following the success of the "BIG DIG" two years ago new stock of specimen field-grown pre-bonsai trees are now available in the field bed alongside the shop. Freshly-mulched pathways and raised beds ease viewing and lifting.

Following a huge team effort in the autumn aided by skilled JCB work, all trees have been carefully root & shoot trimmed & heeled-in, so they're ready for potting direct into shallow containers. Once un-earthed the surprises of root development and trunk spread are revealed.                                                                                                                               A comprehensive availability list is printed on the reverse of the snailmail newsletter. The list includes some species potted recently, mainly the pines which will be available later in the spring.
Products

Bonsai   New outdoor stock is scheduled to arrive ready for week-ends
                           22nd March & 19th April
(please phone for update)                             Young Plants Throughout the winter our production of young plants raised from cuttings has been potted ready for the busy spring season. Buy 6+ get 20% off
Spring feeding We recommend using balanced (1:1:1 NPK) feeds.                                Organic feeds are probably the best: these include fish emulsion, biogold, rapemeal & seaweed extract.
Superthrive root-reviver given at 30 drops per gall aids rapid root establishment post potting and can be used as a supplement through the growing season.
'Fish & 'Thrive works wonders on our orchids too!
Camelia Oil                                                                                                                        We have found this product excellent for pot polishing and tool cleaning (it leaves no grease!)

2008 Chinese Pot Range                                                                                           Last years range of hand made pots has been extended & details can be found in the shop catalogue. The "CQ" range of 9 different styles is mostly buff/sandy coloured unglazed finish of fine tokoname quality.

The "PY" regular range of 13 different styles is quite heavy in appearance and some are painted or etched Chinese-style. These, unbelievably, are priced  similar to the old mica pots, which are no longer available as a regular line.

Check out the bottom of this newsletter for a selection of last years chinese pots
