Glenbrook Bonsai News    February 2010

Dear Bonsai Enthusiast,

Retirement!

Ros & Geoff wish to announce to all our bonsai customers as well as the bonsai community as a whole that they have decided after 26 years in the business to downsize & retire this year if possible.

We will be trading as normal until the nursery is sold, & we look forward to seeing you during the busy season ahead for all your bonsai needs, workshops & courses.

It is very much hoped that the Nursery will continue as a bonsai centre especially as a certificate of existing use, (class A1 retail) has recently been granted.

Pre-spring notes

The hard frost of early January will hopefully have killed off many bugs however it’s still worth giving ‘preventative’ sprays of fungicide or insecticide to some trees during this ‘dormant’ period. Some deciduous trees are ‘marcescent’ i.e. they hold theirs leaves through winter, e.g. Beech, hornbeam & some oaks: these can safely be de-leafed prior to treatment.

During late April/ early May consider treating all your collection organically with nematodes against vine weevil grubs which can gnaw away at roots often undetected. These can be obtained for £12 from "Just Green" tel: 01621-785088 or go on their website: www.just-green.com and view http://www.just-green.com/c/982/Vine+Weevil.html
